Sofia Fanego is an Argentine multidisciplinary artist based in Normandy, France. Her practice explores the relationship between nature, memory and transformation through analogue photography, collage, sculpture and botanical materials. Working with flowers and plants that she grows, gathers and preserves, Fanego approaches nature as both material and archive — a way of recording time, fragility and change. Her work is shaped by a continuous dialogue between the body and the landscape. Analogue self-portraits, pressed botanical specimens, Japanese washi paper, textiles and found materials are layered and transformed into compositions where the intimate and the natural coexist. Her research into Japanese paper and traditional processes, developed during periods spent in Japan, has become an integral part of her material language. From her studio in Normandy, surrounded by the garden and landscape she cultivates, Fanego continues to explore preservation not as a means of stopping time, but as a way of transforming it into memory. Alongside her artistic practice, she is co-founder of BembergFanego, a landscape studio working at the intersection of art, landscape and garden design.
